Travel Medicine Consultation

Our Pre-Travel Questionnaire will help you prepare for a safe trip abroad by ensuring we have all the necessary information about who’s travelling, your itinerary and length of stay. Please remember to include immunization records with your completed form before scheduling an appointment. During the consult, our Travel Medicine doctor can provide vital advice on health risks specific to countries in addition to any required vaccinations or communicable disease prevention measures that may be needed during travel.

Protect Yourself Before You Go and While You Travel

If you are planning to travel abroad, our travel medicine clinic can provide country-specific information, travel vaccines and medications for international travellers. Some of the common health issues that travellers may face include:

Yellow fever: A viral infection that causes high fever and jaundice, transmitted by infected mosquitoes. It is prevalent in some parts of Africa and South America, and requires a vaccination certificate for entry to some countries.

Malaria: A parasitic infection that causes fever, chills, headache and other symptoms, transmitted by infected mosquitoes. It is widespread in tropical and subtropical regions, and requires preventive medication and mosquito protection.

Diarrhea: A common condition that causes loose or watery stools, abdominal cramps and dehydration, often caused by contaminated food or water. It can be prevented by following food and water safety guidelines, and treated with oral rehydration solutions and antibiotics if needed.

Other infectious diseases: Depending on your destination, you may also need to protect yourself from diseases such as typhoid, hepatitis A, rabies, meningitis, polio and more.

Other travel related issues: A travel medicine clinic can also advise you on how to avoid insect bites, animal bites, sunburn, altitude sickness and other potential hazards.

Arrange a travel medicine clinic appointment at least six weeks before your trip date to discuss your travel plans and assess health risks and get guidance on appropriate vaccines and medications for your trip. This will allow enough time for you to receive the necessary vaccines and medication, as well as to complete any booster doses or follow-up visits. Some vaccines and medications may have side effects or contraindications, so it is important to consult with a travel medicine specialist before taking them.
